The number one rule of parents club? Hydrate!

Yup we hydrate and when we are done hydrating we hydrate some more! Especially with the warmer days approaching (already here).

But why?

Because

  • we are made of 80+ per cent of water and need appropriate hydration to be healthy;

  • when pregnant (where amniotic liquid is so vital to your baby) , postpartum (breastfeeding or just healing from carrying a baby for 9 months, the long nights, the long days and birth) our body needs extra hydration!

But how?

Internal hydration with:

  • water of course - and please DO NOT demineralise your water because one essential part of hydration is the electrolyte your water has!

  • that brings us to - electrolytes! very often pregnant and postpartum parents are lacking electrolytes leading to various symptoms from craps, to fatigue and even insomnia. So parents let us up your electrolytes (i.e. minerals that you would find in water, and food) - coconut water, (overnight soaked) nuts (I will post soon on the importance of soaking your nuts!), and a varried diet would help. When (water) melon will start, try to incorporate more of them (and in some cultures you can even sprinkle them with salt), if you consume milk products think of lassis and ayran…so many options and if you are running out of ideas just holla!

  • herbal teas; and/or

  • broth - yes even when it is warm. If you eat meat I would highly recommend consuming bone broth regularly (ideally once a day and you do not need to make it yourself some great organic brands do exist and can deliver to your home - alternatively you could ask your Doula or a family member to support you by making batches that you freeze? if you would to make your own and do not really know how, do reach out and I would love to share my recipe(s)).

Hydrate your skin! face, body and hair.

This would help your skin to be as resilient as it can be.

You can source your hydrating cream or oil in your local para-pharmacy or you can just invest in some organic almond oil. I love rosehip oil too. For scar tissue I would recommend organic castor oil packs (but I would refrain from castor oil packs on belly or internally if you are pregnant). For postpartum parents with hair and lashes loss, warm castor oil masks overnight are also God sent! Many oils, many properties!

And let us not forget hydrating mineral water mists (game changers during labour) and clay masks for hair and face (not during labour but during pregnancy and postpartum for some grounding and you time).

You got this beauties!
